Dear coffee lovers,

We’re thrilled to highlight the 2024 AeroPress championship winning recipe from George Stanica. I’ll be guiding you through the process to recreate this fantastic cup of coffee at home. Get ready to brew like a champion and prepare your taste buds for a delicious, incredibly vibrant, cup of black coffee.

Let’s get brewing! 👀

You’ll need

  • Your favorite mug for hot drinks 💙

  • Light/medium roast Ethiopian coffee with a fruity and floral flavor profile (for this recipe, George Stanica used a wash-processed Ethiopia from the Guji region)

  • Scale to weigh your coffee and water

  • Gooseneck kettle

  • Carafe/server (or just brew directly into your mug)

  • Melodrip Pour-over Coffee Tool for agitating your coffee

  • AeroPress brewer

  • AeroPress filters:

    • AeroPress Paper Micro-filters

    • Aesir Filters (used by George Stanica for this recipe)

  • A consistent coffee grinder

Ingredients

  • Hot water for brewing: 100g (190-200°F / 88-93°C)

  • Water for diluting the coffee concentrate:

    • Warm water from your kettle: 50-55g

    • Room temperature water: 20-30g (78°F / 25°C)

  • 18g of fresh, medium/ medium course (800 microns) ground coffee

Recipe steps

  1. Prepare the AeroPress: Place the AeroPress in the inverted position with the plunger set at the 4th mark. Add 18g coffee grounds to the chamber.

  2. First pour: Pour 50g of water using the Melodrip (takes about 5-6 seconds).

  3. After the first pour, allow the coffee bloom for about 30 seconds.

  4. Second pour: Pour another 50g of water using the Melodrip (another 5-6 seconds).

  5. After the second pour, give the mixture a light stir using the AeroPress stirring paddle in a North-South-East-West (NSEW) motion for 10 seconds.

  6. Filter + kettle prep: Rinse the AeroPress filter within the AeroPress cap and remove your kettle’s lid to let the water cool a bit.

  7. Once your timer reaches 1:20, place the cap with the filter on the AeroPress and gently start pressing (while in the inverted position) to remove excess air from the chamber (takes approximately 10 seconds).

  8. Swirl: Gently swirl the AeroPress (while in the inverted position) then flip it and place it on your server.

  9. Complete + press: At 1:35, slowly start pressing for 30-40 seconds until you have your full output (approximately 80g).

  10. Dilute: From your kettle, add warm water to your 80g coffee concentrate until you reach a total of 130-135 grams. Add 20-30 grams of room temperature water.

  11. Enjoy your championship winning AeroPress brew. 💙

It took me a couple tries to get this recipe right, so don’t get discouraged if you get it wrong on your first attempt. I’d highly recommend drinking it black to fully experience the dynamic flavor profile. Happy brewing!

Have a beautiful day,
