Dear coffee lovers,

Last week was an exciting one: I officially stepped into a new role as Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Fathom, an AI-powered wellness companion for IBD patients (don’t worry, Coffee Club isn’t going anywhere!). I spent the week in Portland, Oregon with my co-founder, dreaming up what the earliest version of the Fathom iOS app could be.

After landing in Portland, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the PDX main terminal, designed by ZGF Architects. The woodwork, lighting, and greenery feel like works of art. I also had the chance to visit the Portland Japanese Garden, which I’d highly recommend if you find yourself in town.

For today’s roasts, we’re featuring a juicy, washed Colombian coffee from Coborn Coffee in London, England and a funky, natural Sumatran from Big Mouth Coffee Roasters in New York, USA. Let’s dive in! 👀

The daily sipper

Leona from Coborn

Leona

  • Roaster: Coborn Coffee

  • Origin: Quindio, Colombia

  • Producer: Luz Helena Salazar, La Leona

  • Notes: Oranges, Icing Sugar

  • Process: Fully Washed

Recommended brewing methods:
Hario V60 · Origami Dripper · Cafec Flower Dripper · AeroPress

The wild one

Meukat Komuditi from Big Mouth

Meukat Komuditi

  • Roaster: Big Mouth Coffee Roasters

  • Origin: Takengon, Sumatra, Indonesia

  • Producer: Meukat Komuditi Gayo

  • Notes: Watermelon, Blackberry, Papaya, Blueberry

  • Process: Natural

Note from the roaster:

This lot comes to us from the Meukat Komuditi Gayo cooperative in Takengon, Central Aceh – the Highlands of Western Sumatra. Meukat Komuditi Gayo consists of a group of 450 farmers, with farms as small as 1/2 hectare, founded in 2017 to unite and advance specialty coffee production in the region.

Recommended brewing methods:
Hario V60 (try it iced!) · Hario Switch · AeroPress (inverted) · espresso shots
