Weekly Roasts: Flower Child and Metric
Discover a pronounced wash-processed Peruvian coffee from Flower Child, and a complex natural-processed Costa Rican coffee from Metric Coffee.
Dear coffee lovers,
I’m feeling refreshed after a week off spent with close friends visiting from the UK. We shared two incredible coffees they brought from Crankhouse, started The Studio, and watched Babette’s Feast—a real treasure of a film. It’s moments like these that make me especially grateful for old, steady friendships. Ready for our Weekly Roasts?
I’ve got two new Gesha varietals for you: a clean Peruvian coffee from Flower Child Coffee in California, United States, and a layered Costa Rican coffee from Metric Coffee in Illinois, United States. Let’s dive in! 👀
The daily sipper
Today’s delicate, nuanced coffee is from Flower Child: the Manuel Marlo, sourced from the Pacpa farm in Peru. The roaster speaks highly of Mr. Marlo-Baca’s intentional approach to his craft—and it shows in the cup:
There's an attention to detail and general love for the natural world in Manuel, it's infectious. The farm is named after a mysterious bird in the area - Pacpa, [who] has blessed the farm and the surrounding area with great crops.
Although it’s a wash-processed coffee, the profile is loud and pronounced. With this roast, you can expect dynamic notes of plum, pluot, purple grape, raspberry and a delicate floral finish. For a clean and nuanced brew, I’d suggest preparing it with a Cafec Flower Dripper, Hario V60, or Chemex.

The wild one
The Miramar Gesha by Metric is our bold and complex selection from Costa Rica. Produced by the multi-generational Montero family, this exceptional lot was harvested and processed with great care by Don Carlos and his son, Jacob.
This outstanding naturally processed coffee yields bright, expressive notes of Grand Marnier liqueur, passion fruit jam, and coffee blossom in every cup. To fully enjoy its dynamic profile, I’d recommend brewing it with a Hario V60, Cafec Flower Dripper, Kalita Wave, or Origami Dripper.
