Weekly Roasts: La Cabra and Wonderstate
Discover two new coffee releases: a washed Colombia Geisha with intense sweetness from La Cabra and natural Ethiopia from Wonderstate Coffee with layers of fruit-forward flavor.
Dear coffee lovers,
The Venice International Film Festival’s 2025 lineup was recently announced and i-D shared a variety of anticipated new films. I’m particularly excited for The Smashing Machine by Benny Safdie, No Other Way by Park Chan-Wook, and Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch for Saint Laurent.
On the note of visual storytelling, I came across a nostalgic and beautifully animated illustration by Thomas Merceron.
Now, on to Weekly Roasts! For today’s new coffees, we’re featuring an intensely sweet, washed Colombia Geisha from La Cabra in Aarhus, Denmark, and an expressive, natural Ethiopia from Wonderstate Coffee in Wisconsin, USA. Let’s dive in! 👀
The daily sipper
El Turpial
Roaster: La Cabra
Origin: Policarpa, Nariño, Colombia
Producer: Emerson Felipe Narváez
Varietal: Geisha
Notes: Ripe Grapes, Citrus, Magnolia, Orange Blossom, Hibiscus
Process: Washed
Note from the roaster:
This recognition is a testament to Emerson’s work under tough conditions. Narco gangs have pressured Emerson to grow coca on the farm, the highest reaches have proved difficult to grow coffee on, and the family initially had to move into a house with no running water or a functioning bathroom. But through it all, the family persisted, and the excitement of burgeoning success is clear in Emerson.

The wild one
Ethiopia Alo Chilaka
Roaster: Wonderstate Coffee
Origin: Chilaka Village, Bensa, Ethiopia
Producer: Tamiru Tadesse + Smallholders of Chilaka Village
Varietal: JARC Selection 74158
Notes: Concord Grape, Wild Blueberries, Passion Fruit
Process: Natural
Note from the roaster:
Tamiru took a bold step in 2020. During a time of global uncertainty, he founded his own coffee washing station and export company, ALO. He began by purchasing coffee cherries from his neighbors and exporting them to high-end specialty markets in Southeast Asia. Over time, his business expanded into Europe, bringing Sidama's exceptional coffee to new audiences.
Recommended brewing methods:
