Dear coffee lovers,

In the latest issue of Standart (issue no. 39), photographer Bas Van Est captures Hank Langkemper’s remarkable collection of vintage espresso machines. A few standouts from the series include the La Pacino Eurobar, Faema E61, and La Pavoni serie Concorso.

In other news, A24 recently dropped the trailer for Marty Supreme, the new film from Josh Safdie, co-director of Uncut Gems and Good Time. Starring Timothée Chalamet, it’s set to hit theaters on Christmas Day.

For this week’s new roasts, I tracked down a sweet, floral Ethiopian coffee from Loyal Coffee in Colorado, USA, and a funky Colombian coffee—an exclusive Orange Bourbon varietal—from Crankhouse Coffee in Exeter, UK. Let’s dive in! 👀

The daily sipper

Gogogu from Loyal

Gogogu

  • Roaster: Loyal Coffee

  • Origin: Uraga, Guji, Ethiopia

  • Producer: Smallholder Farmers

  • Varietal: Ethiopian Landrace

  • Notes: Honeydew, White Peach, Agave

  • Process: Washed

Note from the roaster:

Gogogu comes to us from the remote kebele of Dida Haro Hada Raro in Uraga, Guji, one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated coffee regions. This rugged, high-altitude region is hard to reach, especially during the long rainy season, yet producers here deliver coffee cherry to the central washing station by horse, mule, or donkey — often traveling up to 90 minutes on foot on muddy, washed-out trails.

Recommended brewing methods:
Hario V60 · Origami Dripper · Stagg Dripper · Cafec Flower Dripper · AeroPress

  • Origin: Bruselas, Huila, Colombia

  • Producer: Finca Los Nogales

  • Varietal: Orange Bourbon

  • Notes: Orange Zest, Red Wine, Toffee Sauce

  • Process: Anaerobic Honey

Note from the roaster:

The farm, located in Bruselas, Huila, is family-owned and operated, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and innovation in coffee production. Los Nogales has gained recognition for its unique processing methods, including anaerobic natural processes and meticulous drying techniques, resulting in complex and flavourful coffees.
