Dear coffee lovers,

There’s something to be said about the tactile experience of print media. It’s nostalgic, sentimental, and holds a special place for design and aesthetic appreciation. I recently picked up a vintage Japanese Casio G-SHOCK magazine sourced from Intramural. The zine is packed with wild layouts and nostalgic ads, which made it an easy addition to my collection.

In other news, earlier this week, Tyler, The Creator released his ninth studio album, Don’t Tap the Glass. Unlike his previous albums, which often came with elaborate rollouts, this one dropped just a week after the initial announcement. Give it a listen here.

Onto this week’s new roasts! We’re featuring a sweet, honey processed Costa Rican coffee from Mirra Coffee in New York, USA, and a rare Brazilian Gesha lot (pre-order only) from A Matter of Concrete in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Let’s dive in! 👀

The daily sipper

Gonzalo Hernandez from Mirra

Gonzalo Hernandez

  • Roaster: Mirra Coffee

  • Origin: Puntarenas, Costa Rica

  • Producer: Gonzalo Hernandez, Coffea Diversa

  • Varietal: Mokka

  • Notes: Violet, Zinfandel Grape, Yuzu

  • Process: Honey

Note from the roaster:

Coffea Diversa is a super unique project, initially begun by Gonzalo Hernandez in the Central Valley region of Costa Rica in 2004. With over 800 specimens of different varietals, many of which are commercially cultivated on their farm, Coffea Diversa not only possesses the largest private collection of living coffee varietals and cultivars, but grows the most diverse range of varietals of any other farm that we’re aware of.

Recommended brewing methods:
Hario V60 · Origami Dripper · Cafec Flower Dripper · Chemex · Tricolate Brewer

The wild one

Vacafru from A Matter of Concrete

Vacafru

  • Roaster: A Matter of Concrete

  • Origin: Monte Santo de Minas, Brazil

  • Producer: Mió

  • Varietal: Gesha

  • Notes: Green Grape, Magnolia, Condensed Milk, Melon, Kiwi

  • Process: 60-hour Yeast Fermentation

Note from the roaster:

A coffee that shouldn’t exist, but does—brilliantly, beautifully, and against all odds.

It’s the result of climate collapse.

Extreme heat, sudden droughts, surprise floods. Stress signals sent into the trees, throwing off their entire cycle. The plants responded by fruiting out-of-season—an anomaly, not a second crop. What should have been impossible, happened.

Recommended brewing methods:
Hario V60 · Orea V4 · Origami Dripper · Stagg X · AeroPress (inverted)
