Dear coffee lovers,

For today’s roasts, we’ll be exploring a light, complex Indonesian coffee from Quo Coffee based in Skärhamn, Sweden, and a meticulously processed Burmese coffee by Obadiah Coffee in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Let’s dive in! 👀

The daily sipper

This week’s balanced, slightly nuanced, offering is the Frinsa Estate originating from Indonesia by Quo. Produced cooperatively by Wildan Mustofa & Atieq Mustikaingtyas in the Java region, the Quo team highly praises the coffees they’ve tried from this farm.

During this coffee's processing, a culture called Saccharomyces cerevisiae was added, which excels at breaking down amino acids but is less effective with sugars. The result is a flavor profile with sweet notes of dried apricots, concord grape juice, and a tannin-y body similar to white tea. I’d recommend brewing this one on a Cafec Flower Dripper, Chemex, or Hario V60.

The wild one

The Lady from Ywangan, Myanmar by Obadiah is our vibrant and innovative coffee selection. The Obadiah team provides a brief background for the women-empowering producers, Su Nandar Linn and Thi Ha Gyawalie:

Su Nandar and Thiha actively train and support their all-female workforce in every step of coffee processing, while also paying above-average prices to farmers in nearby villages for their cherries.

Combining wet and dry fermentation, this coffee’s carbonic maceration processing yields extraordinary depths of flavor. In the cup, you can expect sweet notes of cherry cola and a full-bodied boozy finish. The Lady would be great for funky espresso shots and as a filter brew prepared on a Hario Switch, Hario V60, or an AeroPress.
