Dear coffee lovers,

I’m excited to share this week’s selections from Touchy Coffee in Troy, New York, USA and Dak Coffee Roasters in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In 2024, we had the pleasure of featuring both roasters in Coffee Club cuppings (stay tuned for 2025 👀). This week’s picks highlight two distinct profiles: a rich, full-bodied Bolivian coffee and a bold, experimental Colombian roast.

The daily sipper

Our clean and balanced cup of the week is the Bolivia Finca Rosita, roasted by the whimsical folks at Touchy. Known for their stewardship of exceptional coffees, Touchy recently partnered with Finca Rosita, a 32-hectare operation in Bolivia to produce this offering. While typically specializing in omniroast profiles, Touchy tailored this lot specifically for espresso.

This coffee, slightly darker than medium roast, delivers a bold espresso texture without the oily or smoky notes of darker roasts. Expect cozy, syrupy flavors of molasses and fig, making it ideal for espresso shots or a full-bodied filter coffee. Perfect for experimenting or savoring rich, comforting brews.

The wild one

Dak, renowned roaster from the Netherlands, believes specialty coffee should be positive and approachable. Their vibrant Tropic Electric, from Huila, Colombia, is a washed Caturra varietal from third-generation farmer Oscar Hernandez. This coffee’s processing involved thermal shock treatment, pulping with pressed cherry skin sugars added, and a 120-hour fermentation before sun-drying for 15 days.

With its unique processing, this roast is bright and fruit-forward with refreshing notes of juicy raspberries, dragon fruit sweetness, and lemongrass. This experimental offering from Dak is wild and delicious, perfect for the coffee lover craving a pour-over or tropical espresso shot (I’d sip that).
